NEWS FLASH #12

NEWS FLASH is basically news or thoughts that may be changing over time - an update or an evolution of thought that covers a multiple of topics. It is what makes a blogger tick and it is the reason why we read. So, with that in mind, I came up with NEWS FLASH as an acronym that stands for what is going on in life:

News (or current events)
Entertainment (movies, TV, celebrity, etc.)
Work (thoughts on the job or employer)
Spirit (thoughts on God and/or the supernatural)
Family (or friends)
Love
Anxiety (a rant or a trouble)
Sports (also considered should be contests, reality tv, recreation, cards, games), and
Home (house, yard, or even another family type of thought.

NEWS - Hurricane Dean passed through Jamaica (actually the eye was about 20 miles south). It made me think about last October when I was in Jamaica getting married. We wondered what we would do if a hurricane crashed our wedding (pun intended). It might have been exciting, but we settled for perfect weather and scenery. Everyone in the media is happy to report that it looks like the storm is going to stay south of the US. That is because Mexico doesn't matter. Americans are so egocentric, sometimes.
ENTERTAINMENT - High School Musical 2, came out with record ratings for a basic cable production. The Today Show this morning made fun of it for its wholesomeness - at least that is the impression I got. How sad that wholesome isn't appealing. I saw the first movie and found it good and wholesome. There was a big deal about everyone waiting for the leads to kiss in the first one, but they didn't. People couldn't wait to see if they lock lips in the second one. I thought that was funny, because as I watched the first one, it never occurred to me whether they kissed or not. Most of the time, people are bedding each other in otherwise sweet movies. It was refreshing to see that at least some people find the elusive cinematic kiss more appealing.
WORK - I have to clean up this office. I don't want to. We have a cleaning service, but they aren't suppose to mess with my stuff - just trash, dusting, and vacuuming.
SPIRIT - I am going to take this spot and talk about my other blog, The Present Truth (because it is exclusively about my thoughts in that realm). There is a debate brewing about my most recent post. It is about an experience I had at "Motley Crue" concert, of all things, I attended a couple of years ago. I received some feedback that really shocked me. If you have any interest in this kind of thing, you can check out the post here. I am going to do a whole new post in response today or tomorrow so you can stay tuned for that over there, too, if you desire.
FAMILY - I am supposed to go visit my father-in-law this weekend with my wife. However, I have a conflict Saturday night and have to take my mother to the doctor on Monday. If I can get my sister to take my mom, I can go up Sunday and come back Tuesday. Regardless, my wife is going Friday. I hope I can go (at some level), because I want my wife to know that I am still plugging away. Besides, I like my father-in-law. He understands me.
LOVE - I love me some chocolate-oatmeal no-bake cookies.
ANXIETY - I am going to show my house to someone today. I met with a realtor Saturday and he didn't give me many signs of hope. The housing market is horrible and property values are low. In the region of the city where my house is, the values are even lower because of flooding problems. There is no flooding on my street, but the region has problems so it is affecting the whole area. I am not too optimistic about the person looking at the house today. I think he is a house flipper and those guys low-ball homeowners so much. I can't afford to invest $20,000 in a house that is going to be flipped when I won't get a return for the investment, if you know what I mean. Home flippers have passed used car salesmen in sliminess, because they take advantage of homeowners that are in dire straits - wanting to get something for nothing.
SPORTS - My fantasy football draft is Saturday. It is THE "man" highlight of the year. AND, yes, that is my Saturday night conflict from going to my father-in-laws. It is just that I am running the thing, and it was set-up long before this "let's go to dad's" thing. On top of that, I am in my father-in-law's fantasy league and they draft Monday night. Maybe I can make both of them if my sister cooperates. I don't really care about the Monday draft. I don't know those guys. I just want to be there for my wife and father-in-law.
HOME - Today, I hope, I am starting my low-carb diet. It is the only thing that has worked for me that I don't have to think about. It is easy. If it is meat or green vegetables, eat it. If it is bread or anything with wheat or sugar, don't eat it. Protein - yes. Starch or sugar - no. What can be easier. The grill will get a lot use from now on. However, there will be no more chocolate-oatmeal no-bakes for me.
That's NEWS FLASH for this week. Have a pleasant tomorrow.

How totally sad when wholesomeness is mocked.....and sleeze is praised. We live in a messed up society.

Protein diet certainly works, but it isn't as easy as it sounds.
PS: still keep you in my prayer, and take care.
PPS: confession, haven't been checking out the Present Truth, gotta do it now...

No bake? How is that possible? You just eat the dough? HUH??? :) I didnt realize you only got married in October. Highschool musical is a staple in our house at the moment. As is bread...lots and lots of it.

The thing about your father in law and your wife...the thing that is great, is that you DO care.

Kristen: I agree. I get sad about it, sometimes.

Mother Hen: The diet has always worked easily for me in the past. However, I am a meat-eater kind of guy - and also a hypocrite, since I refuse to kill animals.

Brian: Aren't they lovely with a large glass of milk? Need to stop now.

Stepping Over: You are missing out. No, not dough, it is made like fudge, except it turns out (with the oatmeal and peanut butter) with more of a cookie texture than fudge. It is so much better than fudge, in my opinion.

Yeah, I care about being there. It is looking slim though. I probably be home alone this weekend afterall.

How was the house showing? WAS it a flipper or someone who was really interested in your house?

Don't spend your weekend alone eating all the cookies (that is, if you can't manage to make it to FIL's).

Sayre: The house showing was a no-show. They did call and leave a message saying they weren't coming, but I didn't get it till after I waited in the heat for 30 minutes. Oh well.

I won't be eating any sugar or starch this weekend, so don't worry. ;)

There is this really cool site http://www.calorie-count.com and there you can keep a food log, an activity log as well as a weight loss log. You feed in your ideal weight and it pretty much tells you how much you have to lose to reach your ideal weight. Plus there you can keep a record of all the calories you have consumed, you should check it out its cool. For me to not have carbs is impossible but this site helps in knowing how much I'm consuming

Nice side-step on the "L" section. I have actually become quite masterful at it. :) Sometimes its just easier to talk about song lyrics or cookies.

Random: Thanks for that link! I joined it and am going to try to be faithful to it. It doesn't deal with low-carb diets, so we will just see how it works as I deal with that.

Steph: There is only so many things you can say. I do have a passion for no-bakes, though. ;)

There's a stage production of High School Musical in rehearsal in my city at the moment (starts October) and a girl from church is playing the lead. It's a bit of a challenge for her - not the singing because she's awesome at that, but she's 13 playing a 17/18 year old. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I'll be seeing the musical here for sure.

I heard that the home owners market was sucking, it never occurred to me that it affected your attempts to sell.

I was the "commish" last year, but I think I'm just going to play in public leagues. Hey Jeff have you ever participated in the NFL Home Team Challenge? You play by picking NFL players by positions each week, but the catch is each player and defense has a point value that can't go over 300.

So its pretty tough when someone like Ladamian Tomlison has a big game the week before, because the next week he may cost 75 of those 300 points. I like playing this fantasy football game cause of this.
